It all starts with a random wash of multiple layers of transparent watercolors. The key to my process begins when I can view the dried paper from all angles—letting pareidolia take over, allowing my mind to ponder over familiar patterns such as faces, animals, and buildings. My mind's confusion will end with a meaningful image that I can attach a story to. I am looking for depth in the foreground, middle ground, and background. I am also looking for context, a small shape, a dark area, or a white space that will lead me in creating a narrative that resonates with me and others. All the while, my process is driven by an automatic psychological response, which is then intentionally shaped to allow me to show the viewer what I see. Often, viewers will say," I see this or that here." That may be my favorite part. Our minds want to find meaning in ambiguity. The final step is to utilize my drawing skills to create images for others to see, using markers and shading. At times, I will define or obscure lines by adding more paint, all to show viewers my perception of a finished piece.
